The Ministry of Railway has announced that the Huangtong-Baise Railway line connecting Guangxi and Chongqing will start construction in 2009. The ministry has already planned to start building a new line between Urumqi and Lanzhou and another new line between Lanzhou and Chongqing, both more than 200km long. The Huangtong-Baise line will promote access from the interior cities to be to the South China Sea.
