Construction has begun in Chongqing on what will be China’s largest recycled aluminium alloy project.
Sigma Group, founded in 1978 and headquartered in Taiwan, is investing Rmb1.5bn in the project in Gangqiao Industrial Park in Yongchuan district. Sigma focuses on secondary aluminium smelting and metal scrap trading. It has two other smelting plants on the mainland, one in Shanghai and the other in Zhangzhou, Fujian province.
Chongqing Sigma Plant plans to start operations in 2010, and it will have a monthly production capacity of 50,000 tonnes.
