From 8am on 15 April, all vehicles entering Shanghai will have compulsory security checks because of the Shanghai Expo (1 May-31October). The checks will end on 15 November.

Vehicle owners are advised to apply for special permits in advance. Those without permits will need to show their ID cards, driving licences, statements of cargo and, for those carrying dangerous goods, documents for the second driver and special vehicle permits. It is estimated that the checking process will take about five minutes for a car and 20 minutes for a coach.
