At 1am on 11 May, an Anhui-registered self-propelled barge fled the scene after colliding with an anchored vessel in the Changzhou section of the Yangtze River. The sand barge, empty at the time, was sailing upstream when it hit the anchored vessel that was carrying 170 tons of ethylene glycol.
The maritime safety authorities in Changzhou, Taizhou, Jiangyin, Zhenjiang and Nanjing were alerted and caught the barge after a 10-hour chase. There was no leakage from the DG vessel and the incident is still under investigation.
