CentrePort Canada, based in Winnipeg, has signed an MOU with Cuntan container terminal in Chongqing to exploit increasing trade and investment between the two countries. The two inland ports will cooperate in information exchange, technology sharing and promotional initiatives to deepen trade between the two nations.

China is now Canada’s second-largest merchandise trading partner and Chinese businesses increased their direct investment in Canada by 69 per cent year-on-year in 2009.
