Signs to change on Nanjing’s major expressways

26 May 2010
Work has begun to change all sign boards on Nanjing’s three major national expressways, according to the city’s transport officials. The Rmb12.2m project will involve changing more than 700 sign boards between 20 May and 30 June on the G40 (Shanghai-Shanxi), G36 (Nanjing-Luoyang) and G42 (Shanghai-Chengdu) national expressways.

This is part of a nationwide programme to standardise the signage for the national network of expressways so that the name of the entire expressway is shown rather than an individual section. Some 410 of the signs will be new, while the remainder will be replacements. The old signs will be kept concurrently for a period of time for the convenience of drivers, though no specific time has been set for their final withdrawal.

The transport authorities have promised to minimise the project’s impact on road users.
