Main work on the Tangxihe Bridge in Chongqing was completed on 7 June, according to the municipal government. The four-lane road bridge crosses the Tangxi River, a tributary of the Yangtze, and is located just north of Yunyangzhen, halfway between downtown Chongqing and the Three Gorges Dam. It has a span of 230 metres and is held up by the world’s 12th highest bridge piers at 156 metres.
The bridge forms part of the Chongqing-Yibin expressway, which is expected to be opened to the public by the end of 2010.
