Three people died and two were injured when rocks falling from a mountain hit a car and a truck on 12 June in Chongqing municipality, the local government said.
The accident happened in Wulong county on State Highway 319, which connects Xiamen and Chengdu, said Liu Wuhua, deputy head of the county government. Falling rocks knocked a Volkswagen Santana off the road, killing the driver and two passengers, he said. Two people on board a truck were also injured.
Local authorities have closed the Wulong section of the highway to remove potential dangers.
Mud-rock flows and landslides are common in Chongqing in the flood season from June to September.
