Statistics from the Yangtze River Administration show that general cargo volumes continued their upward trend in June, rising 34.5 per cent year-on-year to 128m tons. Foreign trade-related throughput increased at the slower rate of 22 per cent to 15.1m tons. Container volumes increased 32.2 per cent to 820,000 TEU.

During the first half of 2010 cargo throughput on the Yangtze trunk line totalled 670m tons, up 30 per cent year-on-year, while container throughput rose by 34.8 per cent to 4.27m TEU. Foreign-trade related cargo throughput grew by 19.2 per cent to 85m tons.
