On the evening of 10 September, the barge ‘Wangang 698’ carrying metal ore capsized after colliding into the navigation wall at the lower end of the northern shiplocks of the Three Gorges dam, the side that vessels going upstream would use. The emergency code was activated and the area was cordoned off. Early the next morning, the vessel was towed away from the area and both the northern and southern shiplocks resumed normal operation.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. | |
