Chinese automaker Geely and its newly acquired Volvo plan to build three assembly plants in the country to make Volvo cars, reported the Wall Street Journal, citing Li Shufu, chairman of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. According to Mr Li, the plants will be located in Shanghai, Chengdu, in the southwestern province of Sichuan, and Daqing, in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang.
The plants in Shanghai and Daqing would be newly constructed, and the annual output of each one is expected to reach 100,000 units, if government approval is granted.
Quickly boosting Volvo’s presence in China is crucial to Geely’s plan to turnaround the brand, the report said.
