Taicang and Kaohsiung signed an agreement on 21 September to become sister ports.
One of the first four ports on the mainland to operate direct services to Taiwan, Taicang recorded a volume of 25,551 TEU on the Taiwan route in the first eight months of 2010, an increase of 85 per cent year-on-year. The Yangtze port city of Taicang is located in the southeast of Jiangsu province, close to Shanghai.
Port authorities on both sides of the Taiwan Straits have agreed to work together to increase call frequency and develop transhipment and distribution.
