Construction of Chongqing airport’s second runway has been completed, according to a municipal government website. The new runway is part of the third phase of an expansion project that also includes the T2A terminal and related supporting facilities, all of which are due to be put into use by the end of this year.

Involving an investment of about Rmb3.7bn, the third phase expansion project was launched in 2008.

By 2015 the airport’s annual throughput is expected to rise to 30m passengers and 450,000 tons of freight.
