Chongqing Mayor Huang Qifang has officially declared the beginning of phase two construction of Guoyuan terminal, the largest intermodal container terminal in China’s interior. By the end of 2012, the terminal will have 10 multi-purpose berths, three berths for bulk and breakbulk, and two for ro-ro cargo, all capable of accommodating 5,000 dwt vessels. The first phase is still under construction and will be completed by end of this year.
With Jiangbei airport nearby and with railway lines linking the terminal directly with the Yuhuai Railway that connects Chongqing with Huaihua in Hunan province, Guoyuan will be the largest intermodal terminal in inland China, with an annual handling capacity of 30m tons.
