Construction started on 18 October on the biggest flyover in China’s interior. Located in Chongqing’s Liangjiang (Two Rivers) New Zone, the Rmb390m Yuzui flyover is scheduled to be completed by end of next year. The ‘8’-shaped flyover, comprising six lanes, will help connect the city centre with the industrial park of the new zone.
Wen Jieming, director of Liangjiang New Zone, said that the municipal government will invest more than Rmb400bn over the next five years in infrastructure across the zone’s 1,200 sq km area. Some Rmb100bn will be spent on metro lines, high-speed rail lines and port terminals, another Rmb100bn on expressways, tunnels and bridges, Rmb150bn on land development and Rmb50bn on utility projects. Another Rmb15bn has been allocated for green projects in the zone.
