China’s railways transported 2.72bn tons of cargo in the first nine months of this year, up 12.1 per cent year-on-year.

Over the same period, the number of passengers carried increased 9.2 per cent to 1.28bn, which the Ministry of Railways attributed to the rapid development of the country’s high-speed railway network.
