International express delivery company FedEx has called on the Chinese government to speed up Customs procedures to help improve supply chain competitiveness, reported IFW.
David Cunningham, Asia Pacific president of FedEx Express, said the authorities needed to further improve infrastructure planning and development in a country where the cost of logistics is “two to three times higher than in most developed countries”.
He added that while he has been impressed by China’s progress in opening its markets and in building transport infrastructure, efficiency is hampered by poor connections between rail, road and port facilities. A multiple-layered administration also adds to costs.
“As the economy continues to grow, Customs clearance reform will be vital for a seamless, uninterrupted flow of goods across borders to keep the integrated global economy running smoothly,” he said.
