The first phase of Chengdu’s Rmb8bn No.1 metro line has started operation. The 18.5km-long line has 17 stops and runs in a north south direction through the centre of the city.

According to Chengdu’s Urban Track Transport Planning 2012-20, currently going through a public consultation process on its environmental impact, the city will build another eight lines with a total length of 163.6km.
