Taiwan-based personal computer maker Acer has selected Chongqing as the location for its second major manufacturing centre in mainland China. The company has already established a major operations centre in Shanghai. It is expected to sign an agreement with Chongqing municipal government next month.
Acer is the world’s second-largest PC maker in terms of units manufactured, after Hewlett-Packard.
Another multinational high-tech company, 3M, has decided to set up its first technology centre in middle-western China, in Chongqing. It also plans to establish a large local manufacturing plant, said Yu Junxiong, Greater China CEO of the US-headquartered company.
With a total investment of about Rmb29m and an area of 3,000 sq metres, the Chongqing technology centre is planned to be completed in five years. Phase one will be operational in the first quarter of 201, with a focus on technology related to the automobile and electronic products sectors.
