Between January and October 2010 the volume of cargo carried on China’s railways totalled more than 3bn tons, an increase of nearly 12 per cent year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Railways. The average daily loading volume of railways from January to October stood at nearly 1.6bn vehicles, an increase of nearly 11 per cent.
National railway passenger volume stood at more than 1.4bn in the first 10 months of the year, an increase of nearly 10 per cent. October was a particularly busy month due to the seven-day National Day holidays. More than 152.8m people were transported during October, an increase of nearly 13 per cent.
