At 4:30am on 29 November, Zhenjiang Maritime Safety Authorities imposed a temporary ban on shipping as heavy fog enveloped the waters of Zhenjiang in Jiangsu province and visibility fell to below minimum safety levels during the busiest time of the day. All vessels were urged to find the nearest safe spot to anchor. The ban was lifted around 11am as visibility improved. No accidents were reported during this period.
The fog returned on 1 December, causing serious travel problems across large parts of the country. At least 82 flights were delayed in Shanghai, 26 in Tianjin, 52 in Hangzhou and 12 in Wuhan, according to airports authorities. In coastal Shandong, marine transport authorities issued navigational warnings as visibility at sea was as low as 50 metres in some areas. Vessels were banned from sailing or ordered to sail at low speeds. | |
