According to Chongqing Evening News, Chongqing Customs is to focus on setting up e-commerce infrastructure and an international trade settlement centre to help facilitate the city’s new cargo railway route to Burma and beyond. This much-touted route will pass via Guiyang, Kunming, Dali and then cross the border via Runli to west Burma, where the port of Kyaukpyu is located. It is from this Burmese port that the cargo will reach Europe via the Indian Ocean and the Middle East.
The report says that cargo on this route will pass from Chongqing to Rotterdam in just 30 days. The traditional route that connects Chongqing to overseas markets is via the Yangtze River. | |
