China’s cargo throughput at ports above designated size amounted to 735m tons in January, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 13.3 per cent, reported China Knowledge. The increase was mainly attributed to strong demand for commodities; imports of iron ore, crude oil and finished oil products increased 48 per cent, 27 per cent and 51 per cent, respectively.
In January, the country’s container throughput at major ports stood at 13.5m TEU, up 17.6 per cent year-on-year. The ports of Shanghai, Shenzhen, Ningbo-Zhoushan and Tianjin all posted above-average increases of 20.4 per cent, 18.5 per cent, 34.6 per cent and 21.5 cent, respectively.
