The State Council has approved the blueprint for the creation of a new economic zone in southwest China, reported People’s Daily.

The Cheng-Yu economic zone will include Chongqing municipality and 15 cities in neighbouring Sichuan province, and its creation is aimed at boosting the development of western China and promoting a more balanced development between the coast and interior.
