Shanghai port reported a throughput of 7.28m TEU in the first quarter of 2011, a 12 per cent year-on-year rise, according to the port management authority. The growth rate was 3.5 percentage points lower than the level achieved in the previous year and it was also lower than the national average, reported Xinhua.

Shanghai overtook Singapore to become the world’s largest container port in 2010.
