Chongqing’s proposal to build Wushan Mountain Airport has recently been approved by the State Council, according to a story published by China News Services. Construction of the Rmb1.3bn project is expected to start within the year.
With a 3,500 sq metre terminal and four connecting bridges, this is a small airport by Chinese standards, aiming to handle an annual volume of 280,000 passengers and 1,200 tons of cargo. Apart from linking major tourist destinations, the airport is expected to play an important role in easing the transport bottleneck that exists in the Three Gorges Dam area.
