Dongfeng Peugeot Citroen Automobile has started building its third assembly plant in China in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province.
The plant will be fully operational in 2015 with an annual production capacity of 300,000 units, said Qiu Xiandong, a deputy general manager of the joint venture between Dongfeng Motor and PSA Peugeot Citroen. Phase one, with an annual capacity of 150,000 units, is expected to begin operating in September 2013, Mr Qiu said. Its two existing plants have a combined annual capacity of 450,000 units.
The new plant will mainly produce energy-saving and ‘new energy’ vehicles.
