Chongqing’s head of police, Wang Lijun, has been promoted to deputy mayor of the municipality.

Mr Wang was brought in by Chongqing party secretary Bo Xilai to head up an anti-gangster crackdown, which resulted in the arrests of more than 3,000 people. The two worked together when Bo was governor of the northeastern province of Liaoning between 2001 and 2004.
