The Yangtze River Administration under the Ministry of Transport has recently awarded Jiangsu province the title of ‘the most effective promoter of the Yangtze vessel standardisation programme in 2010’.

By 31 May, 329 vessels totalling 36,195dwt had been dismantled, accounting for 31.3 per cent of the plan. Nearly 50 per cent of the vessel owners had been compensated for, accounting for Rmb9.22m. By 2013, according to the provincial plan, 2,221 vessels totalling 230,000dwt will be withdrawn.
