Statistics from the Yangtze River Administration under the Ministry of Transport show that throughput of general cargo increased by 10.7 per cent year-on-year in June 2011 to 134m tons, while container throughput rose by nearly 26 per cent to 980,000 TEU.

Between January and June, throughput of general cargo grew by 16.4 per cent to 772m tons compared with the same period last year. Container throughput during the first half of the year grew by 23.4 per cent to 5.2m TEU.
