Chongqing Metro Line 1 is scheduled to begin carrying passengers from the end of this month. Chongqing Rail Transit (Group) said the line would open once final tests and a trial operation without passengers are completed.

The first phase of Metro Line 1 runs east-west from Jiaochangkou to Shapingba and will involve a journey time of about 25 minutes. The line will have a designed speed of 100kph. All the trains are being built in Chongqing and they will comprise six carriages with a total capacity of 1,880 passengers.
