A 13,000-ton cargo ship collided with a sand barge in Pudong New Area harbour on 24 August, killing a crew member and sinking the smaller vessel.

Shanghai Daily reported that the cargo ship, from Nanjing in Jiangsu province, was out of control and crashed into the stationary barge at the Dongjiadu Harbour on the Huangpu River.

Local maritime and police officers are dealing with the accident, which occurred near the former World Expo 2012 site.
