Chongqing West railway station should be completed at the end of 2015, according to a municipal website, with construction due to begin in 2013.

When completed it will be the largest passenger station in west China, and the terminus for lines that connect with Lanzhou, Xiangfan, Guizhou, Kunming and Chengdu.

The 308km Chengdu-Chongqing passenger line will open to traffic in 2014. By then, it will take only 1 hour and 15 minutes to travel between the two cities. Total investment will be about Rmb40bn.
