At 5:00pm on 30 October, the water level at the Three Gorges Dam reached its maximum of 175 metres for the second time in history, according to official reports.

From now onwards, water will be released as and when necessary to alleviate drought conditions in the middle reaches of the Yangtze until around next April when the water level will have dropped to 145 metres, ready for the new flood season.
