Official statistics show that Nantong’s shipbuilding industry completed 5.31m dwt-worth of orders, totalling a record of Rmb100.5bn during the first three quarters of 2011, up 25.1 per cent year-on-year in terms of value. This means that the county city in Jiangsu province has become China’s second largest shipbuilding centre after Shanghai. By the end of this year, Nantong will have completed 8.2m dwt, worth more than Rmb130bn in revenues.
