Hefei river port in eastern China has recorded a container throughput of 30,971 TEU so far this year, already ahead of its annual target of 25,000 TEU, Xinhua reported.
Following the opening of the port’s multi-use terminal in late December, container throughput has been rising sharply. In the first quarter, it posted an average monthly throughput of 1,275 TEU. In July and August, that figure had increased to 7,000 TEU.
With a population of 5.7m, Hefei is the capital of Anhui province. It is located on the Huai River, a tributary of the Yangtze.
