The Canada-based producer of lifts and escalators, Symax Lift (Holding), is to set up a new manufacturing facility in Wanzhou, Chongqing municipality.

Construction will start this month and end in August 2013. Once all three lift production lines are installed, capacity will reach 4,000 units a year. Total investment will be US$10m and the first line is expected to be put into production in June 2012.

Wanzhou was chosen as the location for the plant because the company wants to better serve the booming market in western China. In Wanzhou city alone, there are 10m sq metres of housing development projects to be constructed in the next five years, which will require more than 5,000 lift units.
