The port of Hefei, capital of Anhui province, has posted a throughput of 40,017 TEU since it opened on 30 December last year, reported Xinhua. The total for the whole of this year is expected to exceed 50,000 TEU, rising to 100,000 TEU in 2012.

Phase two of the port’s three-phase terminal project is likely to start construction next year with a planned capacity of 330,000 TEU.

Hefei accounts for more than half of Anhui’s foreign trade value and container output.
