The State Council recently announced more details of the new vehicle and vessel tax, according to a Xinhua story published on 13 December. The annual tax rates range from Rmb3 per ton for vessels smaller than 200dwt to Rmb6 per ton for those over 10,000dwt. However, vessels can have their tax waived or halved if they use ‘new’ fuels, such as natural gas, bio-fuel and electricity.

This new regulation will take effect from 1 January.
