Marine safety officials in Nanjing detained a visiting Panama-registered vessel on 30 January, after on-board checks discovered powerless engines in lifeboats, a broken alarm system for low fuel pressure in the main engines and 26 other safety violations. The vessel was not allowed to leave until the problems were fixed.

In 2011, Nanjing MSA conducted on-board checks on 128 foreign vessels and 16 of them were detained.
