Port capacity to be increased on Xijiang River

14 March 2012
The aggregate capacity of ports along the Xijiang River, which runs through southern China’s Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and connects with the Pearl River in Guangdong province, will exceed 100m tonnes in 2012, Xinhua reported.

By 2020, major navigational channels of the Xijiang River will be upgraded so that it can accommodate vessels of more than 1,000 tonnes.

The Xijiang is 1,480km long and runs through eight cities in Guangxi. Last year, there were 431 terminals along the river and they handled more than 80m tonnes of cargo.
