Infrastructure projects to be accelerated

23 May 2012
China will accelerate approvals for infrastructure investment in response to a slowdown in the economy, according to the China Securities Journal. The report followed a call by Premier Wen Jiabao for policies that accelerate growth with the country recently releasing data suggesting that it was heading for its sixth straight quarter of slowing economic growth.

The newspaper said the government had sought project proposals by the end of June, even for those initially scheduled for the end of the year. Moreover, it said the central government did not rule out bringing forward next year’s projects if it thought more investments would be needed to stimulate the economy.

China Securities Journal went on to say that infrastructure investment was being approved much more quickly this year compared with the past two years.
