952 ultra-large vessels pass Sutong Bridge in Jan-May

6 June 2012
Reports from Changshu Maritime Safety Authorities reveal that 952 ultra-large vessels safely passed Sutong Bridge during the first five months of this year. Out of this total, 11 were of 200,000 dwt or above, and 167 were of at least 100,000 dwt.

Sutong Bridge, the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world, is located between the cities of Nantong and Changshu in Jiangsu province. It has a main span of 1,088 metres and an air draught of 62 metres. It can allow 50,000 dwt vessels to pass under it all year round. Construction started in June 2003 and the bridge was ready for operation five years later.
