Water level at Three Gorges Dam reduced to 145m

20 June 2012
Reports from the Yangtze River Administration show that the water level at the Three Gorges Dam has been reduced to 145 metres ahead of the flood season. The planned release cycle started in December from a level of 175 metres.

The six-month water release cycle has helped replenish low water levels in the middle reaches of the Yangtze. By 1 June, the water level in the Yichang section rose to five metres for the first time since the dam was built, allowing 5,000 dwt vessels to sail from Yichang to Shanghai.
