20 killed following tanker leak fire in Guangzhou

At least 20 people were killed and another 27 injured in explosions caused by solvent oil that leaked from a tanker truck in Guangzhou, Guangdong province reported China Daily.

On the morning of 29 June, two trucks collided on a flyover in the Nangang section of the Yanjiang Expressway, one of which was carrying 40 tonnes of solvent oil. The leaking oil caught fire and burned buildings and a container yard. Most of the people killed were sleeping in a wood products market under the flyover, according to witnesses.

It took four hours to extinguish the fire, which covered more than 2,000 sq metres, according to Yangcheng Evening News.
