New procedures for leasing deepwater shorelines

4 July 2012
The Ministry of Transport and State Development and Reform Commission have jointly launched new procedures relating to the approval of deepwater shoreline leases. Effective from 1 July, the new procedures stipulate that applications for the lease should be submitted to local authorities, verified by provincial authorities and approved by the central government. Once approval is granted, construction should start within two years of the approval date. The maximum lease period is 50 years.

For sea ports, defined as those situated along the coast as well as Yangtze ports downstream of Nanjing, deepwater shorelines refer to sections suitable for building berths of 10,000 dwt or above. For river ports, deepwater shorelines refer to sections suitable for building berths of 1,000 dwt or above.
