Yangtze MSA launches electronic patrol

4 July 2012
Yangtze MSA launched its electronic patrol system on 1 July after a successful one-year trial run in Wuhu and Wuhan sections. The system will allow maritime safety officials to cover all parts of the 2,100km Yangtze trunkline between Wuhan and Chongqing. It greatly improves efficiency in helping to tackle safety violations, the MSA said.

The section between Nanjing and the Yangtze mouth is under the remit of Jiangsu MSA. It is not clear yet whether the two bodies have an integrated electronic patrol system.

In separate news, the Yangtze MSA reported 87 accidents during the first half of 2012, down 11.2 per cent year-on-year. They caused 10 deaths or presumed deaths and seven sunken vessels, accounting for a direct loss of Rmb7.11m.
