Nantong port sees 30% increase in very large vessels

5 September 2012
Statistics from Nantong Maritime Safety Authorities show that Nantong port received 883 very large vessels during the first eight months of this year, up nearly 30 per cent year-on-year. Out of this number, 121 vessels were 100,000 dwt and above, carrying a total of 8.52m tons of cargo.

These very large vessels have an average draught of 9.7 metres. In the next few years, when the lower reaches of the river up to Nanjing are dredged to 12.5 metres, Nantong is expected to receive even more very large vessels.

The world’s largest LNG vessel, Al Samriya, anchored in Nantong on 1 September. The vessel, 345 metres in length and 55 metres wide, carried 258,000 cubic metres of LNG from Qatar.
