First oil spill recovery boat deployed in Wuhan

10 October 2012
China’s first inland waterway oil spill recovery boat, commissioned by the Yangtze Maritime Safety Authority, has started service in the Wuhan section of the river following a successful test in late August.

The twin hulled working boat is 32.8 metres long, 9.6 metres wide and 1.7 metres deep and equipped with navigation and communications facilities. When an oil spill accident occurs, the diesel-fuelled vessel can be used as on-site command centre, co-ordinating dispatches and carrying out emergency treatment. It is capable of a series of functions such as setting up oil spill containment booms, starting clean-up operations and dispersant spraying, collecting spilled oil and debris, emergency lightening, and monitoring the changing status of the spill.
