17 October 2012
Chongqing is to waive inspection and quarantine fees for exporters in the fourth quarter of this year, according to a State Council announcement of measures designed to maintain growth in foreign trade. The measure is expected to boost the municipality’s exports of electro-mechanical products, according to Xinhua.

Chongqing recorded a cargo transportation volume of 690m tonnes between January and August, 15 per cent more than in the same period in 2011, Xinhua reported. Railway cargo volume increased 6.1 per cent to 14.84m tonnes, while waterway cargo was up 7.1 per cent to 77.94m tonnes. Road cargo totalled 600m tonnes, up 16.4 per cent, while air freight recorded the highest growth rate of 50 per cent to 75,000 tonnes.
